Property in Greece, Messinia, South Peloponnese.
Stone Homes in Greece.
Book direct online flights to Athens Greece and phone direct to hotels on this website in Messinia (they speak English and German and might speak Italian as well as their native Greek), ensuring a holiday far off the beaten track and away from the drunken and obnoxious English yob culture at charter destinations, into the peace of quiet countryside and beautiful beaches - all as gorgeous as the one in the recent Mamma Mia film - many Villas and hotels in Messinia are even better than the fictional Villa Donna in the film Mama Mia.
Charter package holidays to Stoupa (most popular village with the English) with Olympic Holidays and My Travel (Manos).
Access all year round by flying to Athens and utilise Maniatis Travel for coach transfer down to Peloponnese from Athens Airport. Arranged direct by email. They will understand English and German.
Italians have no trouble in getting down to Messinia, coming over by the ferryport of Patras in northern Peloponnese from Bari / Brindisi. Ciao.
There was, in fact, never a need for charter package holidays. In my 3 years of travelling from one end of southern coastal Peloponnese to the other, there were and are any number of hotels available for you to book direct and even have a two or more location holiday over a 10 day or 2 week holiday.
Germans came over the years with no flights to Kalamata.
Many English, including Lord Owen, in the media stated he spent a lifetime coming to his family holiday home near Kalamata by driving down from Athens Airport.

Greece has a stable economy.
Greece Is A Safe Option
With the global financial market in turmoil, knowing where to invest your money isn't as straightforward as it used to be. Stocks and shares are more volatile now than over the past couple of decades, and banks are collapsing throughout the world.
While the ripples of the credit crunch are spreading far and wide there are safe havens waiting to be exploited.
Greece is one of the few European countries to be guaranteeing all deposits in its banking system at the moment, and The Telegraph recently reported the country was at the heart of a new financial Europe.
Greece's own economy is one of the fastest growing in the Euro-zone, with the country enjoying a sustained economic boom post 2000, including a significant expansion in construction and engineering.
Greece is at the hub of the new emerging markets, including the Balkans, and Greek banks have been among the top performers in the EU banking sector, flourishing at home, where they have profited from a surge in the freed-up loans market.
Economy and finance minister George Alogoskoufis recently argued that Greece is better placed than most European countries to weather this storm.
“Greece's economy, due to reforms that took place in previous years and the dynamic it has developed, is more resilient than other European countries in this extremely difficult international environment,” he said.
This new financial popularity isn’t restricted to the banking sector. Investors that have had their fingers burned by the global stock markets are wary with their funds.
Unlike stocks and shares, property is a tangible asset. It’s not only about investing for the gain, it’s about bricks and mortar. (Webmeister: Messinia is not a 'gain' speculation, but an investment in the joy of life - a peaceful haven).
Purchasing property is a very real investment that stands the test of time. Property values peak and trough, but your investment buys you other options.
(Webmeister: your investment buys you a tranquill retreat for life in Messinia, well away from mass tourism).

Maniatis Travel of Kalamata (email - speaks excellent English) - mini-bus transfer from Athens Airport - same company that did the Kalamata Airport coach transfers to Stoupa and other villages. The cost I have been quoted for a shared 8-seater mini-bus from Athens Airport, together with the driver, is 320 Euros divided by 8 equals 40 Euros each.

What Aids Local Tourism in Messinia |
The Southern Peloponnese is better visited by independent scheduled flight via Thessalonikι to Kalamata regional airport and then with a small hire car, with good mileage per litre, staying at luxury or budget hotels in Greece, in the Greek local villages.
Eating out for your evening meal on the healthiest diet in Europe.
For your lighter meals of the day you might care to:
Purchase locally grown fresh fruit and vegetables in season, from the roadside stalls of the local, mostly retired farmers.
Gain fresh local bread from traditional bakers.
Enjoy locally produced Greek yoghurt, which is usually eaten for breakfast with local Taygetos honey.
There are many hotels, both luxury and budget, as well as self catering holiday accommodation in Greece. In Messinia they are by picturesque villages of stone homes, by or near to beachfront and harbourfront bars, cafes and restaurant.
By this way, you can provide a tourism that benefits the locals directly, which is the purpose of the tourist trade.
Locally produced good class arts and crafts is also a way to give you a reminder of the beauty of Greece when you return home.
Local Athenian Greek tourism is only the few major long weekend religious bank holidays and the month of August. For the rest of the year the region of Messinia is quiet.
|
What is Not Helpful to Tourism in Messinia
South Peloponnese towns and villages have narrow, winding medieval roads that often are a single vehicle in width, even on the roads between the villages. Picturesque as this is, it makes Stoupa, Ayios (Agios) Nikolaos, Koroni, Finikounda, Methoni and Pylos unsuitable for touring caravans and motor campers.
Caravans are banned from entry or to be parked in Koroni village.
Caravan owners bring their own food and supplies and do not buy from local shops.
Caravans come to the Peloponnese by the Patras ferry port and come from Germany (Deutschland), Austria (Oestereich), France, Holland and Switzerland (Suisse). The price of petrol makes this journey through Europe and touring around the Peloponnese expensive, especially bearing in mind that rural petrol stations have to charge more for petrol.
There are official campgrounds but many avoid staying overnight in them, and therefore are even less of a support to local tourism. Some even park up overnight obstructing water tanks which need access 24/7 by the Fire Brigade in case of forest fire, therefore being selfish to everyone else in the area, especially the one on the road between Koroni and Finikounda, which is bright red in colour and just above my land and by the side of many Greek villages.
Camping with tents outside of an official campground is a severe fire hazard in the dry climate of Greece, and unhygienic by toilet requirements and rubbish removal.
