Thessaloniki (external link to airport webstie) is a major international airport with flights to it worldwide, and is in Macedonia (the Greek county) of northern Greece. Close by is the museum of King Phillip, father of Alexander the Great, with his fabulous tomb artefacts in Vergina.

FROM GERMANY
There are flights from Berlin Tegel and Dusseldorf airport in Germany to Thessaloniki. And then on Friday, Saturday or Sundays you can fly to Kalamata.
FROM FRANCE AND SWITZERLAND
There are flights to Thessaloniki from Nice, south France, via Zurich, Switzerland, to Thessaloniki, and you can enjoy a day stopover in Zurich outbound. The inbound return flight option is via Vienna, which is another nice stopover. The flights to Thessaloniki to Kalamata run up until October according to the timetable direct from the Kalamata airport authority.
From Spain
There is a flight from Madrid airport to Thessaloniki via Athens, which gives you time to get on the express metro train that takes you direct into the city centre under the Acropolis to enjoy a nice dinner and enjoy the walk in this conserved area. If you wish, you might care to book a small mini-bus with driver via Maniatis Travel to take you down to the region of Kalamata from Athens airport.

Thessaloniki to Kalamata
The flights from Thessaloniki (this is how Thessalonika is spelt in Greek and seems to be the search spelling on the internet) to Kalamata are on the mornings of Fridays, Saturday and Sundays, and return on the mornings of those days. These flights are a brand new summer route for 2008 and are listed until October.
ARISTOMENOUS STREET (ΑΡΙΣΤΟΜΕΝΟΥΣ) - HIGH STREET OF KALAMATA - HIGH QUALITY SHOPPING
This is a good walk with many good class pavement cafes to rest up within.
The stores are all high quality, branded ladies and menswear, cosmetics, handbags, sunglasses and homeware, including a Body Shop ladies costmetics shop. Kalamata Shopping from end to end. Not a complete list.
There is also a Kodak photographic shop on a corner about mid-town (on the opposite side of the road from the square with the fountain and the Courts of Justice and Nomarxeio (County Building) of Aristomenous, which processes film, places them on digital CD or processes digital camera memory cards.
There are no restaurants on Aristomenous.
There is an Atlantic Supermarket on the Athens road out from Aristomenous Street, with its own car park.
On the ring road into Kalamata are all the main car dealerships such as Ford, Kia, Mercedes, Toyota, and Volvo (including warranty repairs garages), as well as large garden centres for plants and even good sized trees such as palms in pots. One such garden centre has garden classical ornaments to give an authentic Greek feel to your garden, as well church figures for the Greek gardener.
Also just before and after the turning for Messini are good class large furniture shops for lounge and bedroom and bathroom suites.
The best priced petrol is along the ring road in Kalamata in the region. The petrol stations seen to be best value were those of Aegean and Eko as well as Medoil. Medoil is on your right as you drive out of Kalamata town centre towards the junction for Athens / Areopolis for the main road through Messinia county.
