Up till 31 October Submission to Land Registry (Ktimatologio - Cadastre) of your property (Date: 26-08-08 Copyright: Kathimerini)
The deadline for resident Greeks 31 October 2008 (urban - villagers get a bit longer till the end of the year) and non-nationals / those living abroad expiry is the 30/12/2008.
Cadastre What is Ktimalogio (website in Greek) - The national Cadastre is a united system of recording of information of real estates. The aim is the creation of a modern, completely automated file of real estate. It is the most important program of cadastral survey that has been running over 4 years and comprises over 3.1 millions acres and 6.7 millions of rights of property in real estates. With the completion of this program, in which will participate roughly 3 millions citizens, the National Cadastre will cover the 2/3 of the population of Greece.
Who have obligation of submission of statements? All individuals that have rights in real estate in the 107 regions, rural or urban.
Where will the statements be submitted? For the better service of citizens, the Cadastre S.A. created 76 Offices of Cadastral survey. Each Office of Cadastral survey is responsible for the real estates that are declared in one or more regions.
What are the supporting documents that I will submit with the statement? The essential supporting documents that should be attached by the citizens you will find in the web page of the Ktimalogio (in Greek).

(webmeister's note: this is why it is vital to have a Greek lawyer for any property that has not yet entered the 'skethio' ie the local plan on land use by local government. Check with them, please.)

What Aids Local Tourism in Messinia |
The Southern Peloponnese is better visited by independent scheduled flight via Thessalonikι to Kalamata regional airport and then with a small hire car, with good mileage per litre, staying at luxury or budget hotels in Greece, in the Greek local villages.
Eating out for your evening meal on the healthiest diet in Europe.
For your lighter meals of the day you might care to:
Purchase locally grown fresh fruit and vegetables in season, from the roadside stalls of the local, mostly retired farmers.
Gain fresh local bread from traditional bakers.
Enjoy locally produced Greek yoghurt, which is usually eaten for breakfast with local Taygetos honey.
There are many hotels, both luxury and budget, as well as self catering holiday accommodation in Greece. In Messinia they are by picturesque villages of stone homes, by or near to beachfront and harbourfront bars, cafes and restaurant.
By this way, you can provide a tourism that benefits the locals directly, which is the purpose of the tourist trade.
Locally produced good class arts and crafts is also a way to give you a reminder of the beauty of Greece when you return home.
Local Athenian Greek tourism is only the few major long weekend religious bank holidays and the month of August. For the rest of the year the region of Messinia is quiet.

What is Not Helpful to Tourism in Messinia
South Peloponnese towns and villages have narrow, winding medieval roads that often are a single vehicle in width, even on the roads between the villages. Picturesque as this is, it makes Stoupa, Ayios (Agios) Nikolaos, Koroni, Finikounda, Methoni and Pylos unsuitable for touring caravans and motor campers.
Caravans are banned from entry or to be parked in Koroni village.
Caravan owners bring their own food and supplies and do not buy from local shops.
Caravans come to the Peloponnese by the Patras ferry port and come from Germany (Deutschland), Austria (Oestereich), France, Holland and Switzerland (Suisse). The price of petrol makes this journey through Europe and touring around the Peloponnese expensive, especially bearing in mind that rural petrol stations have to charge more for petrol.
There are official campgrounds but many avoid staying overnight in them, and therefore are even less of a support to local tourism.
Camping with tents outside of an official campground is a severe fire hazard in the dry climate of Greece.
